About Juan Claros-Sorto

Juan Carlos Claros, M.D., FACS is an assistant professor in the department of surgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and further obtained Breast Surgical Oncology training at Texas Tech University. He is currently the only Spanish-speaking breast surgeon in the state of Oklahoma.

He is heavily involved in cancer support groups in Oklahoma, serving on the board for Project31 and has received the Pink Tie Guy Award for his community support by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

As a resident, he received the Resident Excellence in Caring Award, and as faculty, he has received the Academy of Teaching Scholars (ATS) Education Heroes Award for his positive contribution to the College of Medicine’s educational program during the COVID-19 pandemic. He serves on multiple committees at OUHSC, including the diversity and inclusion task force, and he is currently the Multidisciplinary Breast Oncology Clinic Director at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center.
